Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful William Morris.
Knitting is art not a dying art, but a reviving one. I love this about it too: it is very practical. All our products are designed to be both beautiful and useful. They are meant to be used daily, enjoyed and cherished for years to come. Wool is a very hardwearing material when used in its purest forms. I choose yarn which has the highest wool content possible to ensure the best results, the most fabulous texture and the softest feel beneath your fingers. It is for this - the feel of the wool - that I became addicted to wool at an early age.
Lovely people like lovely things, and I like making things for lovely people. I make things for my friends and family, my nearest and dearest, and I name them after them too. Your friends and family will love these things too.
The more I make things, the more I dislike the high street mass-produced market. I am rarely inspired by it. Instead, I am inspired by nature rambles, hikes in the Scottish hills, the wind rustling in the trees, the apples falling to the ground in the orchard.
Take for example, my favourite tea cosy, Clair. To me, this evokes age-old Scottish traditions of tea making, and the texture of the landscape of Scotland, its roughness and earthiness. Or consider the bunnies - they were inspired by an afternoon painting on the hills near Torosay Castle, when everything was so still that all the bunnies came out to play. They were soft and small and light, and played around my feet. Magic moments like these dont come that often.
Time is one of our most precious gifts, but all too often we live as if it is slipping away between our fingers and we are running after it trying to grab it back, trying to cram as much into our allotted time as possible. Instead, we could slow down and enjoy the moment, relish the lack of speed in creating something new, something beautiful, something lasting. Knitting makes me do this - knitting is SLOW!
Take time to enjoy this website, and I hope you will be inspired by what you find.
